Is This The Best Drugstore Eyeliner? Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner 24H – Review

There are plenty of eyeliners on the market, so now it’s easier than ever to find the perfect product for your needs. I tried many of them in the past years, and so far I’ve found my favorites to be from the Maybelline brand.

First I had a major crush for the Master Precise eyeliner, this was my favorite marker liner last summer. And now I’m a big fan on the Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner, which comes in a pot, and it’s matte & opaque enough to help me get the perfect winged liner.

What I really like about it

  • I love the formula and the texture, it’s really thick and easy to apply
  • it’s matte and it comes in an intense black shade
  • it dries out pretty fast. However, if you mess up anything, you can still remove some of the edges without a problem, unlike other eyeliners that are harder to work with
  • it has an oil-free formula
  • it’s waterproof
  • it says it’s a good fit even for sensitive eyes

As for the lasting performance, I’m quite impressed. It lasts so many hours without any smudging, flaking or fading. Even the wings (which usually tend to fade first) look perfect all day long, which is a big plus. I haven’t tried applying it directly on the lid, without a base, so maybe that makes the difference too.

I usually apply a bit of concealer on the lid first, and then use a matte eyeshadow to set it up. That makes the perfect base for the eyeliner. In this way, I make sure that the product will last heroically all day long.

To take it off, I use a double-phased make-up remover. My favorite is the one from Nivea, which does an amazing job. I also tried removing it with micellar water, but it’s harder to take off.

Other advantages of the Lasting Drama eyeliner:

  • it’s cruelty free
  • it’s pretty cheap (I got it for 30 RON)
  • it has a big quantity, so you can use it daily without worrying that you’ll have to replace it anytime soon.

The packaging & brush

The brush that comes in the package works pretty well. It has two ends, one for applying the eyeliner as usual, and one for smudging it, to achieve a smokey eye effect.

Personally, I think the smudging end doesn’t work, at least not for me. I tried to do it once, but the eyeliner got patchy and messy, not as “smokey” as I thought it would. So I’m probably not gonna try it again. But the normal end, with the thin brush, works pretty well for creating a usual cat eye look.

However, I noticed I’m getting a lot better results when I use the Makeup Revolution PRO E104 brush instead. That one has the perfect shape for eyeliner, because it’s angled and thin, so you can draw precise lines.

Another thing that usually happens with gel eyeliner is that it can easily dry out, which makes you waste product and throw it away much quicker than others. However, this didn’t happen with Maybelline Lasting Drama. I’ve still got plenty of product to use, and it hasn’t dried out at all.

Overall, I’m really pleased with my purchase, and I think I like it even more than the ScandalEyes one from Rimmel.

You can see how it looks on me in a recent picture I posted on Instagram. I’m happy with the results, and I feel that this product is a must for every girl on a budget. It’s so great and so cheap at the same time!
