Hello lovelies! I’m finally back from London, so now I’m just trying to return to normal life. I’ll tell you more about my short trip in a future post, so stay tuned for that. But meanwhile, I wanted to discuss a hot topic with you. I was just wondering if some iconic make-up rules are still relevant today or not.
The question is: are there still any rules left in the make-up world? Or does it all come down to creativity? After reading a quite controversial conversation in a make-up group, it got me thinking. Can we impose people certain rules to follow, like “never wear red lipstick with cat eyes“, or “false lashes are only for a dramatic evening make-up“? Or is this all bullshit?
I think that it’s a lot more important to feel good about yourself and the make-up that you are wearing. You should care a lot less about people’s opinions. We all judge, we all have different styles and preferences, so let’s not forget that.
It’s easy to stick to your comfort zone, with basic neutral colors and light-weight products. That’s awesome, I am also a big fan of this look. But sometimes, that just doesn’t cut it. Sometimes, I feel the need to get crazy and creative with my looks. To add more colors, to add more product, to mix styles and textures. Is this really wrong?
Colorful make-up may not be easy to pull off, but it can look beautiful if done right.
To prove that, I created this colorful spring make-up look. This challenges one of the main make-up rules, which says: only emphasize one area of your face, the eyes OR the lips, not both. So I decided to go against the flow and just do it. I wore bright purple eye-shadow with dark eyeliner and bright red lips.
A no-no for many girls. And yet, does it look “too much”, “repelling”, “ugly”? I don’t think so.
