Hi lovelies! If you follow me on Instagram and Facebook, you probably already know that Kiehl’s is finally here in Cluj 🙂 I’ve heard only good things about this brand in the past, so I was very excited to attend the official launch event last week, on May 9th.

Until now, Kiehl’s was only available in Bucharest, in Afi & Baneasa. But now they’ve just opened their first store in Cluj, so I got the chance to try a few of their products, get a personalized skin test and learn more about the brand history.

What you need to know about the brand

The Kiehl’s history starts in 1851, in New York, as an apothecary founded by John Kiehl. In 2000, it was bought by L’Oreal, and today it has more than 250 retail stores worldwide. And they’ve done some pretty awesome brand activations in the past, such as sending their products on a spaceship or on mount Everest 😀

They pride themselves in using only naturally-derived ingredients, such as lavender, calendula, caffeine, vitamin C, for a healthy and beautiful skin. Some of their most popular products are the Midnight Recovery serum (constantly praised by many beauty gurus and influencers across the globe), their eye cream with avocado, the amino-acid shampoo with coconut oil, and the ultra facial moisturizer (now also available with SPF 30).

How was the event

The official launch event started with a really fun “treasure hunt”. We had to gather 4 clues, to discover the secret entry of the store. Here’s where I also got the chance to meet the famous Mr Bones, the brand mascot that you can find in all Kiehl’s stores. I think this was a really smart way to start an event, it got us all curious and engaged from the first moment we arrived.

About the store… it looks soo luxurious and fancy! It’s like a glam and fashionable pharmacy, with perfect lighting, golden details and plenty of shelfs with skincare, haircare and bodycare products.

One of the best things about this brand is that they encourage you to buy only products that are suitable for your needs. They rely on word-of-mouth to make their products even more popular, so they give customers several samples before making any purchase. That’s amazing, because it’s the best way to convince someone that the products are actually worth the money (especially since they’re a premium brand, and the prices reflect that).

Overall, I had a pleasant and entertaining evening. It was nice to meet up with all the beauty bloggers from Cluj, take plenty of pictures and catch up on things. And the pancakes with maple syrup and blueberries were also delicious 😀

Skin test & samples

I also got a personalized skin test, to determine my skin type and hydration level. I discovered I had normal skin with oily tendencies in the T-zone (soo… combination skin, as I was suspecting). But I also learned that I have a pretty dehydrated skin. So according to these results, I got a few personalized recommendations.

The lovely girl that did my skin test showed me all the products that would be suitable for my skin type, and then gave me a couple of samples, to try the whole routine at home for a few days and see how they work.

If you have a Kiehl’s store nearby, go ahead and give it a try, because it’s a great way to determine whether your current skincare routine is really appropriate for your needs. You could be surprised by the results 🙂 And if you don’t, you could try their routine finder tool for healthy skin.

Also, they have a recycle process: you can get a stamp for every empty recipient that you return to the store. And with those stamps, you can get travel-size products for free (a lip balm, a moisturizer, etc.). Pretty cool, huh?

What about the products?

Well, besides the samples I got after taking the skin test, I also received a goodie bag with a few other products: a facial cream, a mask, a lip balm, a few serums and a shampoo. I’m going to tell you a bit more about them in a future post.

But so far, I must say I’m quite impressed by their quality. You can definitely tell they’re high-end, from the first moment you try them. The Midnight Recovery serum is my favorite so far, because it smells amazing and it hydrates my skin so well.

And the ultra facial cream has a light texture, so it’s perfect to use on a daily basis, but it’s also very moisturizing and nourishing for the skin. Also, if you love fruity flavours, you’ve got to try their mango scented lip balm!

I’m happy I got the chance to attend this event, and to try all these amazing products that everybody was raving about. Welcome to Cluj, Kiehl’s!
